RESUMO

Masseter hypertrophy (MH) is an uncommon natural condition that affects the facial contour. The etiology is debatable, and complaints are usually cosmetic in nature. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and aided by imaging tests. Treatment is still controversial. The literature is relatively scarce in relation to information on MH, particularly in the evaluation of outcomes. Through questionnaires, the progress was observed in the evaluation of the outcomes of aesthetic procedures. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to apply a Facelift Outcome Evaluation (FOE) questionnaire to evaluate the outcomes of surgical treatment in a case of MH. A 23-year-old male presented to the clinic complaining of bullying due to his facial aesthetics. Clinical and imaging evaluation was performed, with the creation of surgical guides. The patient answered the FOE questionnaire pre- and postoperatively, with results of 12.5 and 100.00 respectively. This subjectively shows the success of the treatment. We suggest that a questionnaire applied exclusively to masseter hypertrophy should be developed, as well as studies for the development of muscle volume measurement protocols, aiming at a more specific evaluation of the surgical outcomes.

Representing about half of the pathologies of the salivary glands sialolithiasis is a non-neoplastic, inflammatory pathology, characterized by the formation of calculi in the parenchyma of the salivary gland or ducts, obstructing the passage of saliva. A higher prevalence of involvement in submandibular glands and in men over 40 years old is observed. Considered multifactorial, it has unknown etiology. It is asymptomatic in calculations of reduced size, but in great proportions they appear with signs and symptoms. Radiographically, a radiopaque image is observed in a region related to the affected gland. This paper aims to report a clinical case of a sialolite associated with the submandibular gland parenchyma. Due to the proportions of the sialolito associated to the complaint of the patient the surgical treatment was the best option, reaching postoperative success(AU)

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular disorders encompass a set of clinical conditions that affect the temporomandibular joint, the masticatory muscles and the associated tissues. Many therapeutic alternatives can be considered, being divided into non-invasive, minimally invasive and invasive interventions. This work aims to report a case of inflammatory joint pain and dysfunction treated with bilateral TMJ full reconstruction with alloplastic prosthesis stock. CASE REPORT: Patient D.J.S.S., female, 41 years old, hypertensive, for six years had constant pain in TMJ bilaterally, with limitation of mouth opening, with a clinical signs of joint disc displacement without reduction. Initially treated only by conservative approaches. Without improvement, arthrocentesis of the TMJ was performed. The symptoms do not regress, leading the patient to bilateral discopexy procedure. We opted for the alloplastic substitution of the temporomandibular joint with prostheses of stock in both joints through an established protocol. DISCUSSION: The main objective of the reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint in cases of joint bone degeneration is the restoration of form and function, considering the reduction of pain as a secondary result. Alloplastic replacement of TMJ can be considered as an alternative therapy to improve the quality of life of a small group of patients showing signs and symptoms of TMD as a reduction of maximum mouth opening, pain, etc. CONCLUSION: The use of total joint prostheses has been configured as a good therapeutic alternative for severe conditions of TMJ that do not respond to conservative treatments. However, further studies are needed to demonstrate whether these results are long term.

Of the injuries that affect the face, the fracture of the mandible is in second place in most studies, despite having a dense and resistant bone structure. When there is a mandible fracture, due to muscular actions and discontinuity of the mandibular arch, there may be displacement of the bone stumps, classifying it as an unfavorable fracture. Among the classifications, a complex mandibular fracture occurs when there is involvement of distinct anatomical regions, with the main involvement of the regions of angle and parsiphysis. This paper aims to report a clinical case of complex jaw fracture. A.R.S patient 50 years old, leucoderma, male, victim of trampling searched the UFBA CTBMF service for complex jaw fracture rehabilitation, with a major complaint of chewing pain. Physical examination revealed partial edentulism in both arches, limitation of buccal opening, atypical mobility of jaw manipulation, volume increase in the left buccal region and hypoesthesia in the lower lip region. At the imaging examination, signs suggestive of a fracture of the mandibular parsley and left mandibular condyle were observed. Surgical treatment was determined for the fractures in the mandibular and mandibular parasite, and conservative for the mandibular condyle. After gathering the characteristics of the fractures, as well as the clinical signs and the main complaint of the patient, the association of surgical and conservative treatment was of great value(AU)
